In the aftermath of WWII, a family is forced to flee their burning home with nothing but the clothes on their back and an important family heirloom, a plate collection. Through the eyes of the children, it is a fantastical adventure, a chance to enjoy the wintery countryside. However, a very real danger, shrouded in smoke and fire, hunts them as they travel through the fields and forests on their way to safety.
